Thursday, January 4, 2018

In acknowledgement of her efforts to create a positive business environment for California’s manufacturing sector, the California Manufacturers and Technology Association (CMTA) has recognized Senator Janet Nguyen as a “Champion of Manufacturing”; a designation given to legislators whose votes align with CMTA’s position on key manufacturing bills. According to the CMTA, “Champions of Manufacturing” are companies, partners, and individuals who overall prioritize the growth of innovation, energy efficiency, productivity and sustainability of manufacturing businesses.

“California’s manufacturing sector not only produces a wide range of goods, but also employs more than 1.2 million Californians,” said Senator Janet Nguyen. “It is important that we support manufacturing growth and innovation by creating policies that encourage manufacturers to stay and invest in California.”

Founded in 1918, the CMTA represents 400 businesses, ranging from pharmaceuticals to transportation fuel and energy companies. The mission of CMTA is to protect and support manufacturers and technological companies across California by working with the state government to develop balanced laws, regulations, and public policies.

To create the 2017 Manufacturers Legislative Vote Record, CMTA selected 10 bills that either positively or negatively impact manufacturers’ interests. Among the 10 bills reviewed were Assembly Bill 1583 (Chau), which makes a company’s factual basis discoverable, and Assembly Bill 1250 (Jones-Sawyer), which introduced a significant amount of restrictions prohibiting companies from partnering with nonprofit organizations, licensed professionals, and local services. Senator Nguyen’s votes on the 10 bills aligned with CMTA’s position 90 percent of the time, making her worthy of the organization’s top recognition.

Since her election to the State Senate in 2014, Senator Nguyen has consistently supported bills that create a business environment that is conducive to sustainability and growth. For three consecutive years, Senator Nguyen has received top ratings from CMTA.
